What if your laptop could become a mini voice-production studio?

VoiceStudio is an open-source, local-first AI voice platform that can handle voice cloning, voice design, video dubbing, dictation, transcription, stories, audiobooks and batch audio generation. Its current repository lists 16 TTS engines, 11 ASR engines and a catalogue covering 646 languages. Local workflows run on your own hardware, so the core workflow does not require an account, API key or subscription.

TL;DR SCROLL DOWN TO THE BOTTOM

And here's the interesting part.

You don't have to use it just to make cool AI voices.

You can turn the skill into multiple freelance services, content businesses and AI-powered products.

First, How Do You Install VoiceStudio?

If you're a beginner, don't start by cloning the GitHub repository and fighting with code.

Use the official installer.

Windows

Open PowerShell and run:

irm https://voicestudio.sh/install | iex

The installer automatically selects the appropriate Windows build. You can also download the current Electron .exe installer from the project's Releases page.
(Links are at the bottom of the page)

Mac or Linux

Open Terminal and run:

curl -fsSL https://voicestudio.sh/install | sh

That's the current one-command installation route for the latest Electron release.

Don't have a powerful GPU?

You can still use it.

VoiceStudio supports NVIDIA CUDA acceleration and Apple Silicon Metal acceleration. Computers without a dedicated GPU can run the application using the CPU, although generation will generally be slower.

Your First 10 Minutes with VoiceStudio

Once installed, think of VoiceStudio like Canva, but for AI audio.

Open the application.

Go to Voice Cloning.

Add a clean voice recording as your reference.

Enter the text you want spoken.

Choose the appropriate model or engine.

Generate.

The application can download required models when needed, and hardware requirements vary depending on the engine you select.

For voice cloning, only use your own voice or a voice for which you have explicit permission. The project itself specifically tells users to clone voices only with permission.

Now comes the fun part.

10 Ways to Turn VoiceStudio Into Income

1. AI Voiceover Service

Sell voiceovers for YouTubers, Instagram creators, podcasts and advertisements.

Roadmap:

Learn TTS → create 5 demo voices → build a portfolio → DM 50 creators → offer first project → convert clients into monthly packages.

Your pitch:

"I can turn your scripts into polished multilingual voiceovers."

2. YouTube Dubbing Agency

Creators increasingly want their existing videos adapted for other languages.

VoiceStudio supports video dubbing workflows with timed speech.

Roadmap:

Learn dubbing → create English-to-Hindi demo → create Hindi-to-English demo → approach 20 YouTubers → sell 5-video packages → move to monthly retainers.

Don't sell "AI dubbing."

Sell:

"Reach another language audience without reshooting your videos."

3. Audiobook Production

Authors need narration, editing and chapter production.

VoiceStudio supports stories, audiobooks and batch generation.

Roadmap:

Create a 3-minute sample → learn audio cleanup → produce one sample chapter → approach indie authors → sell per chapter → offer complete audiobook packages.

4. Podcast Repurposing

Turn one podcast into multiple language versions.

Roadmap:

Learn transcription → extract scripts → generate translated narration → sync audio → create multilingual episodes → pitch podcasts with international ambitions.

Your offer becomes:

One podcast → multiple language editions.

5. Voice Ads for Small Businesses

Local businesses constantly need promotional content.

Think:

Restaurants. Gyms. Coaching institutes. Real-estate brokers. D2C brands.

Roadmap:

Create 10 sample advertisements → approach 100 local businesses → offer 3-video starter package → upsell monthly content.

A Mumbai restaurant doesn't necessarily need a Hollywood voice artist.

It needs a good 20-second advertisement delivered quickly.

6. Regional-Language Content Agency

India is multilingual, which creates a huge service opportunity.

Create content in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu and other supported languages where the selected engine provides suitable coverage.

VoiceStudio's catalogue lists 646 languages, although actual voice quality and coverage depend on the selected engine.

Roadmap:

Choose 2 Indian languages → create samples → target regional creators → sell dubbing + voiceover bundles → build recurring clients.

7. Voice-Based E-Learning Production

Teachers and coaching businesses have hundreds of lessons to produce.

You can help convert scripts, presentations and educational material into narrated learning content.

Roadmap:

Create one sample lesson → approach educators → offer 10-lesson pilot → standardize production → sell 50-lesson packages.

The key is not selling audio.

You're selling faster course production.

8. AI Audiobook and Story Channel

You can also become the publisher.

Create original stories, public-domain material where legally appropriate, educational explainers or fictional series.

Roadmap:

Choose a niche → produce 10 episodes → publish consistently → build YouTube/Spotify/social distribution → monetize through ads, sponsorships or products.

Don't simply mass-generate content. Editing, storytelling and originality are what create value.

9. Build AI Voice Agents

This is where VoiceStudio gets much more interesting for technical users.

The project exposes local APIs and an MCP server that can allow agents such as Claude Code or Cursor to generate speech, clone voices and transcribe audio locally.

Roadmap:

Learn APIs → learn MCP → connect an AI agent → connect VoiceStudio → build a voice assistant → package it for a niche.

For example:

AI customer-support assistant → local speech → voice response.

That's no longer just a voiceover service.

It's an AI product.

10. Sell Voice Automation to Agencies

Instead of doing the production yourself forever, build the infrastructure.

Imagine an agency sending you:

500 scripts → automatically processed → voice generated → files organized → delivered.

VoiceStudio supports local APIs and batch-oriented workflows, making automation a natural direction for technical users.

Roadmap:

Learn VoiceStudio → API basics → Python/JavaScript → automation → build batch pipeline → offer it to agencies → charge setup + monthly maintenance.

This is the highest-leverage direction because you're selling infrastructure rather than individual audio files.

The 30-Day Beginner Challenge

Week 1

Install VoiceStudio.

Generate 20 different voice samples.

Experiment with languages, voices and engines.

Week 2

Create:

5 voiceover samples

2 dubbing samples

1 audiobook sample

1 advertisement

1 educational sample

Now you have a portfolio.

Week 3

Pick ONE market.

Creators, authors, educators, agencies or local businesses.

Contact 10 potential customers every day.

Week 4

Get your first paid project.

Document the workflow.

Turn it into a repeatable package.

Then raise your price.

One Important Business Warning

VoiceStudio is currently licensed under AGPL-3.0, and the repository says models can have their own licenses. It also notes that a commercial license is available for proprietary or closed-source use. Before building a commercial product around the software, check the current software and model licensing requirements for your exact use case.

Also, never clone someone's voice without permission.

The Real Opportunity

The mistake is thinking:

"I learned an AI voice tool."

That's not a business.

The valuable skill is:

Voice AI + production + niche + distribution + sales.

A freelancer can sell voiceovers.

A creator can build a dubbing service.

An agency can sell multilingual content.

A developer can build voice agents.

A technical founder can build voice infrastructure.

Same technology.

Different business models.

So don't stop at installing VoiceStudio.

Install it. Build something. Create proof. Find a niche. Sell the outcome. Then automate the workflow.

That's how a free AI tool becomes an actual skill.
